To ensure the success of a nonprofit organization you really need to have the right leadership and structure. It starts with the Board (including the Executive Director) and everything else falls in line. The Board needs to be diverse (based on experience, financial support, demographics, tenure, etc.)
Once the right Board is in place, it then often sets up sub-committees that are vital to the success of the nonprofit. Resources are scarce for charities, especially in this environment, so they need to make the most of what they have, which often means motivating volunteers to take leadership roles on different initiatives.
